Over two-hundred and twenty-five years ago on April 30, 1789, George Washington, the first president under the Constitution, was sworn in with his hand on a gigantic open Bible. After he swore to uphold the Constitution, he leaned over and kissed the Bible.

Strangely enough, several people today say George Washington was not really a Christian. let's check the evidence and see why it matters so much?

In answer to the second question: To paraphrase Woodrow Wilson: "A nation that doesn't remember where it came from doesn't know where it is or where it is going." In that same speech, Woodrow Wilson stated that America was born as a Christian nation. Because of that undodgable, irrefutable fact, people of all faiths or no faith are welcome in the USA. Nevertheless, Americans should honor the Christian faith that helped shape the country to be all that it is, despite people trying very hard to RUIN IT.

A few years ago an author co-wrote a 1200 page tome or book with Dr. Peter Lillback on the faith of Washington. After carefully sifting through the evidence, the book demonstrated and documented that Washington was a devout 18th century Anglican and NOT a Deist, as some revisionists of ill repute and devious distinction - say.

At Mt. Vernon,
George and Martha Washington's red-roofed estate resides on a hill overlooking the Potomac River and is perhaps the most famous and visited home in America. If a person knows where to look and what to look for, there are many, many reminders of Washington's devout faith to be found there, and not just Bibles in the library.

At Mount Vernon, is a re-creation of George's pew from Pohick Church, located in Lorton, Virginia. This box-shaped, red brick Anglican church was not only where Washington attended weekly services earlier in his life, but he served there as a Vestryman—an Anglican version of an elder and a deacon rolled into one.

Other replicas from Pohick Church at Mount Vernon include miniatures of the cross and two sections of the “reredos.” The reredos are pronounced RARE-uh-doss and are a large plaque often placed behind the altar in colonial Anglican churches with the words of the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Apostles’Creed, with its affirmation of the Trinity.

The congregation would arise and recite these things together. There were reredoses (RARE-uh-doss) in the churches regularly attended by not only Washington, but also Patrick Henry, James Madison and, even, Thomas Jefferson.

People regularly witness reredoses in churches in Williamsburg, Alexandria, Philadelphia, New York City located at St. Paul's Chapel, and Providence, Rhode Island. There are many churches in the East where it can be truly claimed, “George Washington worshiped here.”

At Mount Vernon, can be seen Washington's “chariot”— the red horse-drawn carriage, with which he would routinely travel several miles over in muddy roads to Christ Church in Alexandria in the last several years of his life, where his funeral was eventually held.

Washington is buried on the grounds of  Mount Vernon. Behind the sarcophagi of Martha and George are the words of Jesus from John 11 written in stone.

The inscription says: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”

As to his faith, Nellie, his granddaughter whom he and Martha reared, stated that to question his Christianity, you might as well question his patriotism.

Washington said that only by the hand of God was he able to accomplish what he did. He referred to God (as“God”) some 100 times in speeches and letters. In addition, he used many respectful terms for Him such as the great governor of the universe, the invisible hand, etc. in Baroque (i.e., decorated) custom, as did many other Christians of his day and time. Dr. Lillback notes that Washington also referred to Providence, a long,fancy name for God, at least 270 times.

After George Washington was sworn in 225 years ago in the then-capital, New York City, he led the onlookers to the nearby St. Paul's Chapel, where reredos regularly take place, for a two-hour worship service, including Holy Communion, to implore God's help. Witnesses say he himself participated in the Lord's Supper.


Athough April 30, 1789 is the beginning of These United States under the Constitution with Washington serving as the first president in that way, Americans actually had another first president, although not well known to the majority of us.

In 1781, the first president was sworn in under the Articles of Confederation, was John Hanson, and there is a memorial to him in a Lutheran church in Philadelphia which honors John Hanson (technically) as our first president. As was often done, there was “A Proclamation for a Day of Thanksgiving, issued by John Hanson, president of the Continental Congress, on October 11, 1782. Some would argue that as it was the presidency of the Continental Congress, he was not truly "the first".

The Articles of Confederation constituted America's first Constitution, but even though it was so unworkable the founders met in the summer of 1787 to amend them, they decided to throw it out and start all over again. Therefore, the Constitution was written anew, with SOME of the ideas of the Articles of the Confederation.

Ray Charles and many believe America has been blessed by God. But as Washington warned those present and the future generations in his First Inaugural Address - how can America expect His continued blessings if we disregard the rules of right and wrong that heaven itself has ordained? Cynical folks think cash kickbacks come with obtaining such a "featherbed" position. One is forced to work for a paltry $172,200 named Susan Sher. This money is the top out pay for White House staff. One or two holdovers MAY get that salary but MAY have worked for many, many years faithfully. Perhaps one of the newbies or newbys is more than just a friend? A couple of devious, dastardly rogue scoundrels used the word "adopted" when referring to a dog to foul up internet searches. Scum do things like that all the time. No one has ever seen Michael Obama "in a family way" and doubtless never will. Obama's bath house alias was Harrison J. Why suffer the tyranny of unfair HIGHER taxes when the top 2% of American earners ALREADY pay 80% of ALL the income tax? The eve of December 15, 2013 found TV's 60 Minutes doing a special report on the National Security Administration (NSA). The news network said they had "unprecedented" access to the top-secret spy agency's headquarters. This has been called the NSA's highest-profile opportunity to defend itself on charges of spying on Americans and getting into FBI "territory". NSA spokespersons claim that NSA does not spy on Americans, but is does that depend on the definition of "SPY" and just more government down-low foreplay lies, did 100s of Americans tuning in just SEE B S (CBS)?
